They Are Hiring

Some industries are hiring! It's true: The recession is not uniform across all industries. You can find some bright spots in the Employment Situation: March 2009 bulletin from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)—click here for the pages that show non-farm employment by industry. On those pages, I have indicated in red the industries in which employment actually increased from March 2008 to March 2009.
Along those lines, let me repeat something I wrote in our May/June 2009 Search & Employ magazine: “Talk to everyone who has opportunities for veterans. Do not rule out any business or industry until you have discussed the opportunities with a recruiter. And do not confuse occupations with industries. For example, a veteran who is interested in an occupation in information technology should not confine his or her search to firms in the I/T industry.” I pointed out that an ad for MillerCoors in that issue listed I/T as an available opportunity.
